ORLANDO — A former employee is suing the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, alleging breach of contract, retaliation, unpaid wages, violation of workers compensation acts and wrongful discharge.
Patricia Porter filed a complaint March 1 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida Orlando Division against the sheriff's office, alleging failure to provide proper compensation to the plaintiff for her work.
According to the complaint, Porter she sustained monetary damages from not being paid overtime wages for all hours worked as a supervisor of the animal care center that exceeded 40 hours per week. The plaintiff alleges the Brevard County Sheriff's Office terminated her employment as retaliation for complaining about not getting paid proper wages.
Porter seeks trial by jury, economic damages, lost wages, reinstatement, front and back pay, compensatory damages, interest, court costs and all further relief the court grants. She is represented by attorney Martha A. Chapman of Orlando.
