Deja Vu Showgirls did not pay minimum wages or overtime, former entertainer claims

Law money 08

TAMPA – A Hillsborough County woman alleges she was only compensated in tips when she was employed as an adult entertainer. She has filed a class-action suit.

Shawna Lowney filed a complaint on behalf of all others similarly situated on March 6 in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida against Deja Vu Showgirls of Tampa LC and Mark Figueroa citing the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she worked for the defendants as an adult entertainer from 1998 to November 2016. The plaintiff holds Deja Vu Showgirls of Tampa LC and Figueroa responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to pay minimum wages to the plaintiff, did not pay overtime wages and misclassified her as an independent contractor.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of $5,000 for each plaintiff, damages, all legal fees, and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Donna V. Smith of Wenzel Fenton Cabassa PA in Tampa.
