Woman seeks disability benefits from Life Insurance Co. of North America

Insurance 04

TAMPA – A former employee of Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings alleges her claim for long-term disability benefits was unlawfully denied.

Catherine Dohs filed a complaint on Feb. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division against Life Insurance Co. of North America alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffered damages from having her disability benefits denied by the defendant. The plaintiff holds Life Insurance Co. of North America responsible because the defendant allegedly decided to deny plaintiff's long-term disability benefits despite her being disabled according to the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks reinstatement, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Paul S. Kimsey of Kimsey Law Firm PA in Tampa.
