Lumina Analytics promotes intelligence analysts

Internet

TAMPA — Lumina Analytics has promoted three of its intelligence analysts to the position of senior intelligence analyst.

Katherine Martin, Jacob Shonkwiler and Kristopher Smeage, who all joined Lumina Analytics last year, were promoted.

Tampa-based Lumina Analytics is a big data, predictive analytics firm that provides insightful risk management and security intelligence to large, regulated corporations and government clients. It focuses on the aggregation of external, publicly available data for risk management analysis. It achieves this by using proprietary machine-learning algorithms to address certain risks within health care, financial services, defense, corporate and national security.

Martin is former Presidential Scholar at Boston College and has a bachelor’s degree with a major in theology and a minor in philosophy from the college. She was also the founder of early-stage funding firm LaRagazza in 2014, according to PR Newswire.

Shonkwiler is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Law and the University of Florida. While in law school, he worked for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Miami. Before joining Lumina Analytics, Shonkwiler practiced commercial law at a firm in Tampa.

Smeage holds a Master of International Affairs with a concentration in a quantitative policy and data science from Columbia University and a Bachelor of International Affairs from Baldwin Wallace University. At Baldwin, he was honored as an Outstanding Senior of the class of 2012 and served as student body president. Before joining Lumina Analytics, Smeage worked on a data integration project to enhance subway operations with the New York City Transit. He has also worked with the Ministry of Finance and provincial governments in the Philippines to make operational the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, a global initiative to reduce money laundering and corruption in extractive industries.

According to Morten Middelfart, chief data scientist and co-founder of Lumina Analytics, this is the "most talented group of young professionals I have ever worked with."

“Their individual contributions to our work in 2016 were extraordinary," Middelfart said. "We would not be where we are today if we had missed the opportunity to hire any one of these young associates."

Martin and Smeage each focus on projects for corporate and government clients while Shonkwiler has specialized in litigation risk analytics and reporting to date.

Last year, Lumina Analytics also announced that it had hired former insurance industry defense attorney Jessica Dareneau to its team, reports the Florida Business Daily.

Lumina Analytics’ clients rely on the company for risk management support that typically involves understanding litigation and regulatory compliance that can be difficult to comprehend, according to the Florida Business Daily. Dareneau is reported to bring the skills and experience that will be appreciated by Lumina Analytics clients and the company itself.

Lumina Analytics was founded by serial entrepreneurs Middelfart and Allan Martin, who is Lumina’s CEO.
