Chanel files trademark suit against alleged counterfeiters

MIAMI – Chanel alleges online retailers are selling counterfeit versions of its products.

Chanel Inc. filed a complaint on Jan. 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against highchanelbags.com, fashionstorehandbag.com, et al. alleging trademark infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages to its business. The plaintiff holds highchanelbags.com, fashionstorehandbag.com, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly used online and retail stores to sell counterfeit copies of plaintiff's products, which also features its trademark.

The plaintiff seeks enjoin the defendant from further infringing plaintiff's trademark, transfer the subject domain names to the plaintiff's control, pay the plaintiff for all profits and damages, treble damages, statutory damages of $2 million per each counterfeit trademark used, all legal fees plus interest and any other relief as this court deems just. It is represented by Stephen M. Gaffigan, Virgilio Gigante and T. Raquel Rodriguez-Albizu of Stephen M. Gaffigan, P.A. in Fort Lauderdale.
