Woman says Standard Insurance Company was wrong in denying benefits

Insurance 02

TAMPA — A woman is suing Standard Insurance Company, citing alleged breach of contract.

Bonnie L. Coffey filed a complaint on Dec. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against Standard Insurance Company, alleging that the insurance firm wrongly denied her claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in 2014, she became disabled due to tendonitis, osteoarthritis and other physical illness and was granted disability benefits that were later terminated. The plaintiff holds Standard Insurance Company responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its decision to deny the plaintiff's claim for disability benefits despite several appeals and despite the plaintiff being eligible for the benefits.

The plaintiff seeks all plan benefits, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. She is represented by Nick A. Ortiz of Ortiz Law Firm in Pensacola.
