Woman alleges she is disabled, seeks disability benefits from Aetna Life Insurance Co.

Insurance 07

MIAMI – A woman alleges her claim for disability benefits was wrongfully denied.

Danielle Barrera filed a complaint on Jan. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Aetna Life Insurance Co. alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled and applied for short-term and long-term disability benefits but was denied in December 2015. The plaintiff holds Aetna Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly and adequately investigate the merits of plaintiff's claim.

The plaintiff seeks payment of disability benefits due to the plaintiff, reinstatement, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Stephen F. Jessup and Gregory Michael Dell of Attorneys Dell and Schaefer, Chartered in Hollywood.
