FORT MYERS – Two employees have filed a class-action lawsuit against a fire and rescue service alleging that they were not paid overtime wages.

Stephen Demeter and Paul Coblentz filed a complaint on behalf of all others similarly situated on April 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Fort Myers Division against Little Gasparilla Island Fire and Rescue Inc. alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act provisions.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that during their employment with the defendant, they did not receive proper overtime compensation at a rate of time-and-one-half of their hourly rate for each hour worked in excess of 40 in a single week.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensation for unpaid overtime wages, liquidated damages, prejudgment interest, attorney's fees and costs and for such other relief as the court may deem just and proper. They are represented by Brandon J. Hill of Wenzel Fenton Cabassa PA in Tampa.
