Greenberg Traurig LLP issued the following announcement on Oct. 11.

Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A. welcomes four international lawyers to take part in the 2019-2020 Foreign Law Clerk Program (FLCP). The program, which the firm has offered since 1999, provides non-U.S. lawyers with meaningful U.S. legal experience within the firm’s global practice.

The four members of the 2019-2020 FLCP class hail from Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Brazil, where they worked at some of the region’s largest law firms. Collectively, they have experience in real estate, capital markets, securities, private equity, corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and sports and entertainment. They will be based in Greenberg Traurig’s Miami office.

FLCP participants have completed their Master of Laws (LL.M.), are qualified to practice law in a jurisdiction other than the United States, and are fluent in English. The law clerks are assigned a shareholder mentor to support their career development and work closely with members of the firm’s Latin America, International Arbitration & Litigation, and Global Corporate Practices. Upon completion of the FLCP, participants most often return to the country where they are licensed to practice law to continue their career.

“By teaching both our U.S. lawyers and foreign law clerks about the transcendence, extension and coexistence of cultures and legal practices across different countries in the region, we ensure that the benefits of the Foreign Law Clerk Program extend far beyond the program’s culmination,” said Antonio Peña, a shareholder in the firm’s Latin America and Global Corporate Practices, who oversees the FLCP. “As always, our attorneys are very much looking forward to working with our foreign law clerks this year and for years to come after the program’s culmination.”
