Reed Smith LLP issued the following announcement on Aug. 16.

José I. Astigarraga and M. Cristina Cárdenas have earned rankings from Chambers and Partners for their international arbitration work in Latin America.

In addition, Reed Smith’s Latin America-wide International Arbitration practice earned a Band 2 – out of 5 – recommendation by Chambers and Partners Latin America.

Astigarraga has “a global perspective on disputes and he knows how to resolve even the most complex cases,” Chambers and Partners reported one former client saying. He is ranked Band 1 for his international arbitration work in the United States as well.

“Cristina Cárdenas enjoys a strong reputation among clients for her work in the international arbitration field, with one describing her as ‘an amazing professional,’” Chambers and Partners said.

London, UK-based Chambers and Partners describes Reed Smith as "skilled at representing investors in prominent investment treaty cases" and "highly sought after for its experience handling claims concerning the energy and construction industries."

The Chambers Latin America Guide covers a total of 20 jurisdictions in the Caribbean and South America. When ranking attorneys, it factors in technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, and commitment.

Reed Smith's Latin America team handles a range of transactions, projects, disputes, and other matters throughout Latin America and employs dual-qualified lawyers covering a variety of jurisdictions. It is led by Houston partner Francisco Rivero.
