FOLEY & LARDNER LLP: Jack Lord Profiled in Daily Business Review

Lawyer

Foley & Lardner L.L.P. issued the following announcement on Aug. 9.

Miami partner Jack Lord, co-chair of Foley’s Labor & Employment Practice, was profiled in the Daily Business Reviewarticle, “I’m Not Going to Hide Who I Am’: Attorney John ‘Jack’ Lord Jr. Champions LGBTQ Rights.”

In the profile, Lord discussed why he has always been open at work about his sexuality. “I personally have always been out at work, and I think it’s important,” said Lord, who also is co-chair of Foley’s LGBTQ affinity group. “Obviously, there are going to be people that, unfortunately, are going to make bad decisions because that’s on your website. But overall, I’m not going to hide who I am, and also I think it is a way to boost your career.”

Lord also discussed Foley’s commitment to diversity, including through its pro bono work which has included helping to support transgender rights and LGBTQ senior citizens. Lord noted that his pro bono work sometimes overlaps with his client work which includes training, counseling and defending employers. If, for example, a client hires a man who, six months later starts presenting as a woman and asking to be called by a different name, Lord educates and advises that company about what it should and shouldn’t do, “I don’t fault people for not knowing,” he said. “I do want them to be curious, and I want them to be open minded.”
