CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County couple is suing an Indian Shores restaurant and bar operator, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Sharon Walker and John Walker filed a complaint June 15 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Bonga Bonga Inc., doing business as Mahuffers, alleging failure to ensure the establishment was free of hazards.

According to the complaint, on April 9, 2017, Sharon Walker was injured at Mahuffers restaurant when she fell down a stairwell and struck her body. She says she suffered injuries in and about her body and extremities, medical expenses, disability, mental anguish, lost wages and loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life.

The plaintiffs allege Mahuffers failed to provide a safe means of ingress and egress throughout the premises, proper stairwells and adequate lighting.

The Walkers seek trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus interest and court costs. They are represented by attorney John Elliot Leighton of Leighton Law PA in Miami.
