FORT LAUDERDALE — A Deerfield Beach homeowner is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

Therese Sanders filed a complaint March 20 in Broward Circuit Court against United Property & Casualty Insurance Company, alleging failure to provide coverage for hurricane damage.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, while Sanders' property at 3995 NW Fourth Court, Deerfield Beach was insured by United Property, it sustained damages as a result of a windstorm triggered by Hurricane Irma. The suit says the defendant has refused to pay the plaintiff's entire claim despite her demand for payment.

The plaintiff alleges United Property & Casualty Insurance has required Sanders to retain an attorney to represent and protect her legal interest and denied coverage to pay the full claim against terms of the insurance policy.

Sanders seeks trial by jury, damages interest, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorneys Samuel Rogatinsky and E. Terrell Matthews of Rogatinsky & Matthews PA in Fort Lauderdale.
