ORLANDO — A Florida patient is suing eye doctors, alleging negligence in their care of the plaintiff.
Eric Turley filed a complaint March 19, in the Orange County Circuit Court against Dr. Andrew J. Hanzlik, Andrew J. Hanzlik MD PA, Dr. Brian T. Burry Medical Eye Associates Inc. and Dr. Mont J. Cartwright, alleging they failed to provide an appropriate level of care, skill and treatment.
According to the complaint, on April 8, 2016, Turley was treated for a traumatic injury to his right eye at Florida Hospital Celebration. By Sept. 6, 2016, Turley says, he was essentially blind in that eye. The suit says Turley was permanently injured and sustained resulting pain and suffering, disfigurement, loss of earnings and aggravation of a previously existing condition. The lawsuit states the defendants negligently allowed allow his initial injury to progress without proper care, resulting in glaucoma, retinal detachment and permanent blindness.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to appropriately treat his traumatic eye injury in a timely fashion, failed to perform appropriate procedures, and failed to inform the patient with regard to the urgency of his condition.
Turley seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, plus court costs and all relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorneys Joseph M. Taraska and A. Scott Noecker of Morgan & Morgan PA in Orlando.
