ORLANDO — An Orlando homeowner is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

Marta Lopez filed a complaint Jan. 25 in Orange County Circuit Court against Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company, alleging failure to cover water damages.

According to the complaint, on April 10, 2017, Lopez's property at 2029 Diamond Drive, Orlando, sustained a covered loss as a result of a plumbing leak. However, Lopez says she has suffered and continues to suffer monetary damages resulting from Universal Property's breach of the insurance policy.

The plaintiff alleges Universal Property & Casualty Insurance has failed to provide coverage for the loss under the terms of the policy, failed to acknowledge that payment would be forthcoming and/or failed to make adequate payment of insurance proceeds to the plaintiff.

Lopez seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, plus interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Juan E. Mourin of The Law Offices of Grey & Mourin PA in Miami.
