ORLANDO — A former employee is suing an Orange County company, alleging discrimination and retaliation.

Courtney Scheider filed a complaint Jan. 23 in Orange County Circuit Court against Veggifruit Inc. alleging the defendant failed to uphold anti-harassment workplace regulations.

According to the complaint, in August 2016, Scheider began working for Veggifruit as an accounts receivable manager. The suit says Scheider suffered damages, including loss of employment, income and benefits, emotional distress, humiliation and embarrassment, due to the defendant's wrongful conduct to discriminate and harass the plaintiff.

The lawsuit states Veggifruit retaliated against Scheider by reducing her pay for her complaining of a hostile work environment. The plaintiff alleges Veggifruit engaged in sexually harassing behavior toward her in the workplace, and discriminated against Scheider on the basis of her sex.

Scheider seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, including actual damages, back pay, punitive damages, reasonable attorney fees, interest and court costs. She is represented by attorney Travis R. Hollifield of Hollifield Legal Centre in Winter Park.
