ORLANDO — An Orlando property owner is suing an insurance carrier, alleging breach of contract.

Dionicio Abreu filed a complaint Feb. 16 in Orange County Circuit Court against Security First Insurance Company, alleging failure to provide coverage after a hurricane.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, while Abreu's property's insurance policy was in full force and effect, his home at 2715 Waklulla Way, Orlando, sustained a covered loss as a result of wind, wind-driven rain and/or hail from Hurricane Irma. However, the suit says, Security First breached the policy by failing to pay for the covered loss.

The plaintiff alleges Security First Insurance failed to properly indemnify Abreu for his losses stemming from the covered peril and failed to fully perform its obligations under the policy.

Abreu seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, plus interest, court costs and attorney fees. He is represented by attorney Louis A. Gonzalez of Trujillo Vargas Gonzalez & Hevia LLP in Orlando.
