ORLANDO — An Apopka property owner is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract in failing to cover hurricane damages.
Nora Rooney filed a complaint Jan. 16 in Orange County Circuit Court against American Integrity Insurance Company of Florida, alleging failure to pay insurance proceeds.
According to the complaint, on Sept. 11, 2017, with Rooney's insurance policy with American Integrity in full force and effect, her property at 3957 Walker Road, Apopka suffered damages from Hurricane Irma. Rooney says she timely notified the defendant of the damage to her home but has not received any payment needed for roofing and construction services to her property.
The plaintiff alleges American Integrity Insurance has failed or refuses to pay all of policy owner's damages and/or estimates to the property.
Rooney seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, unpaid and overdue insurance benefits with interest, court costs, attorney fees and all other remedies the court sees fit to grant. She is represented by attorney Jennifer El Mekkaoui of Cohen Law Gorup in Maitland.
