Motorist blames another driver for St. Petersburg crash

CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County woman is suing a Manatee County motorist, alleging negligence caused a crash that injured the plaintiff.

Cindy Gillis filed a complaint Dec. 29 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Belinda Scarberry, alleging the motorist failed to exercise standard care and skill in the operation of a vehicle.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 2, 2016, Gillis was driving near the intersection of Interstate Highway 275 and 54th Avenue North in St. Petersburg. The suit says Scarberry carelessly operated her 2005 Jeep, causing it to collide with with Gillis' car. 

As a result of the crash, Gillis says she suffered, serious and permanent injuries, great physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, inconvenience and aggravation of an existing condition. 

The plaintiff alleges Scarberry failed to adequately maintain and operate a motor vehicle so as not to cause harm, and operated the Jeep in a negligent manner.

Gillis seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, plus court costs, pre-judgment interest and all other relief the court deems appropriate. She is represented by attorrney Frank P. Marsalisi of Marsalisi Law in St. Petersburg.
