ORLANDO — A former employee is suing Econo Lodge Inn, alleging fraud and retaliation.

Manuel Borrero filed a complaint Dec. 27 in Orange County Circuit Court against Kartar LLC, doing business as Econo Lodge Inn & Suites, alleging he was fired for refusing a lower-paying job after he was injured.

According to the complaint, on July 30, 2017, Borrero, 54, was fired from his maintenance job at an Orlando Econo Lodge and Inn after suffering an injury July 23. The suit says he has suffered lost wages and emotional distress, as a result of his wrongful discharge for his attempt to seek benefits or compensation under the Workers' Compensation Law.

The plaintiff alleges Econo Lodge Inn & Suites discharged him in reckless disregard of his rights and failed to keep him as a full-time employee as it had promised to do. Borrero says he was told he was too old for the job.

Borrero seeks trial by jury, damages of at least $15,000 for lost income, compensatory damages, pre-judgment interest, and all other relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorney R. Martin Saenz of Saenz & Anderson PLLC in Aventura.
