Father blames Orlando hospital for son's death

Medical malpractice 09

ORLANDO — A father is suing an Orlando hospital, alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress in causing the death of his son.

Tim L. Adams filed a complaint Dec. 27 in Orange County Circuit Court against Select Specialty Hospital Orlando Inc. alleging the defendant recklessly disregarded his son's condition and failed to know that relatives of the patients were traumatized by the impending death of Victor R. Adams and lack of care to its patients.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 2, 2016, the hospital allowed Victor Adams to be transported by ambulance to Orlando Health. As he accompanied his son, Tim Adams says his son was not receiving the proper medication once he was transferred to the hospital.

The suit says Victor Adams remained in the hallway and was not connected to proper oxygen equipment, which caused Tim Adams' son to die right before his eyes.

As a result, Tim Adams says he was mentally and physically harmed from witnessing the treatment of his son.

The plaintiff alleges Select Specialty Hospital Orlando failed to foresee the traumatic mental harm to Tim Adams and failed its duty to discover that the intentional, harmful act was being committed or was likely to be committed.

Tim Adams seeks trial by jury, damages with punitive damages of more than $15,000, attorney fees, court costs, pre- and post-judgment interest, and all other relief the court deems just and appropriate. The plaintiff is representing himself.
