Slip02

CLEARWATER — A customer is suing a St. Petersburg cafe owner, alleging negligence caused her to fall and suffer injuries.

Charlene R. Ashley filed a complaint Dec. 20 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Knight Global Entertainment LLC, doing business as Ring Side Cafe, alleging the establishment owner failed to provide a safe environment for its customers.

According to the complaint, on March 16, 2017, Ashley was a patron at Ring Side Cafe in St. Petersburg when she slipped and fell on poorly lit steps, fracturing her left femur and her right ankle. The suit says as a result of the defendant's negligence in maintaining the stairs with sufficient lighting, Ashley suffered pain, physical handicap and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Ring Side Cafe failed to warn her of the dangerous condition, created and concealed an extremely dangerous condition, and failed to properly inspect and maintain adequate lighting on all areas of its commercial establishment.

Ashley seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus court costs. She is represented by attorney Walter E. Smith of Meros, Smith, Lazzara, Brennan & Brennan PA in St. Petersburg.
