Orlando homeowner alleges insurer failed to cover damages

Insurance 08

ORLANDO — An Orlando homeowner is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

Camilo Buitrago filed a complaint Nov. 15 in Orange County Circuit Court against Integon National Insurance Company, alleging failure to cover damages to the insured's home.

According to the complaint, on June 7, Buitrago's property at 2606 Pisces Drive, Orlando, suffered a covered loss in the form of direct physical damage. Although Buitrago says he timely notified Integon and allowed full inspection of the property, the defendant has failed to make a coverage determination, violating a Florida statute, and has constructively denied the plaintiff's claim of $17,961.06.

The plaintiff alleges Integon National Insurance failed to make a coverage determination and refused to honor its contractual obligations to pay for a covered loss.

Buitrago seeks trial by jury, judgment of more than $15,000, plus costs and prejudgment interest. He is represented by attorneys Hunter Patterson and Alicia Perez of Strems Law Firm in Winter Park.
