CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County man is suing a local Wal-Mart and the store manager, alleging negligence caused him to fall and suffer injuries.

Charles K. Hansen filed a complaint Sept. 25, in the Pinellas County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Jimmy Rivera, alleging they failed to provide a safe environment for its business invitees.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 28, 2016, Hansen was in the store premises at U.S. Highway 19 North, when he slipped on a substance that appeared to be rainwater leaking from the roof of the property. As a result, the suit says, Hansen suffered bodily injuries and resulting pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, loss of earnings, and aggravation of a previously existing condition.

The plaintiff alleges Wal-Mart and Rivera failed to warn Hansen of the danger of slipping on the substance, failed to inspect the floor space, and failed to correct the dangerous condition.

Hansen seeks trial by jury, judgment of more than $15,000, exclusive of interest, plus court costs and attorney fees. He is represented by attorney Darrell W. Kropog Jr. of Morgan & Morgan Tampa PA in St. Petersburg.
