FORT LAUDERDALE — Two Florida property owners are suing Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company for alleged breach of contract.

Edwynne and Abbie Murphy filed a complaint on June 13 in the Broward County Circuit Court, alleging that the defendant breached its duty of good faith and fair dealing.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that their property sustained damages on February 24 as a result of water and/or ensuing losses. Though the defendant allegedly admitted liability for the loss, the defendant allegedly refused to pay the plaintiffs the current amount of the policy.

The plaintiffs hold the defendant responsible for allegedly obligated them to retain and pay for legal counsel to represent and protect their interests, and for refusing to pay the full amount of their insurance claim.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendant for damages, compensatory damages, attorney's fees, costs and other relief the court deems just. They are represented by Jesse Long of Pazos Law Group PA in Weston.
