ORLANDO — An individual is suing Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company for alleged breach of contract.

Andres Abreu filed a complaint on June 20 in the Orange County Circuit Court, alleging that the defendant breached its duty of good faith and fair dealing.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that his insured property was damaged on Aug. 29, 2016 as a result of water loss that continues to causes him to incur additional expenses and loss. The plaintiff allegedly filed a timely claim for the damages and loss, but the defendant allegedly refused to fully pay despite allegedly knowing that it is required to. 

The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly failing provide coverage under its insurance policy and for failing to promptly pay the amounts due.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for actual and compensatory damages, pre-judgment interest, costs of action, attorney’s fees and any further relief the court deems appropriate.
