Homeowner seeks insurance coverage for Hurricane Matthew damages

Net

ORLANDO – A Winter Park homeowner alleges his property sustained damages from Hurricane Matthew that were greater than what his insurer acknowledged.

Ziad Harou filed a complaint on May 31 in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Orange County against Security First Insurance Co. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 8, 2016, his property sustained a covered loss as a result of Hurricane Matthew. The suit states the defendant acknowledged the covered loss and offered payment, but the property allegedly sustained damages greater than the amount the defendant covered.

The plaintiff holds Security First Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to acknowledge that additional payment would be forthcoming, and failed to adequately provide coverage under the terms of the policy.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury, compel appraisal or judgment for damages, plus interest, courts costs and attorney's fees. He is represented by Juan E. Mourin of The Law Offices of Grey & Mourin PA in Miami.
