ASI Assurance Corp. allegedly failed to indemnify property owner for hurricane damages

Insurance 09

ORLANDO – An Orange county property owner alleges his insurer failed to adequately compensate him for damages to his property caused by a hurricane.

Ricardo Mateo filed a complaint on May 17 in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Orange County against ASI Assurance Corp. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 7, 2016, while his property's insurance was in full force and effect, the property sustained a covered loss as a result of a hurricane. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant failed to adequately indemnify him for his losses.

The plaintiff holds ASI Assurance Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly indemnify plaintiff for his losses stemming from the covered peril and failed to tender an appropriate amount to repair the property.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for damages, plus interest, court costs and attorneys’ fees. He is represented by Louis A. Gonzalez and Zaf Glenn Goss of Trujillo Vargas Gonzalez & Hevia LLP in Orlando.
