FORT LAUDERDALE – A Broward County man alleges he was terminated in retaliation by his former employers for taking a medical leave.

Harry A. Brockman filed a complaint on May 12 in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Broward County against Goldcoast Freightways Inc., GCF Logistics Inc. and Patrick J. Maxwell alleging breach of agreement and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began his employment with the defendants in 2013 as an account executive. The suit states that in September 2016, he was hospitalized for 21 days, made an 80 percent recovery in two months and returned to work. He was terminated on Feb. 21, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds Goldcoast Freightways Inc., GCF Logistics Inc. and Maxwell responsible because a motivating factor for defendants to terminate him was his leave and that the defendants also failed to adequately compensate plaintiff for all hours worked.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for damages, unpaid wages, interest, costs, attorneys' fees and other relief the court deems just. He is represented by Peter Hoogerwoerd and Nathaly Lewis of Remer & Georges-Pierre PLLC in Miami.
