Woman alleges wet floor at Turkey Lake Service Plaza caused fall, injuries

Slip02

ORLANDO – An Ohio woman alleges she was injured because of a wet floor at a Florida Turnpike service plaza.

Linda Wittman filed a complaint on May 10 in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Orange County against Areas USA FLTP LLC and Florida Department of Transportation alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 19, 2016, she slipped and fell at the Turkey Lake Service Plaza while entering the restroom. She alleges the floor had been mopped but no signs or warnings had been placed.

She alleges she suffered bodily injury in and about her body, resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, scarring, mental anguish, loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life, medical expenses, loss of earnings and aggravation of pre-existing conditions.

The plaintiff holds Areas USA FLTP LLC and Florida Department of Transportation responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to maintain and inspect the floor in a safe manner, failed to provide warning of the wet floor while mopping, and failed to hire, retain and train employees to properly maintain the premises.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for damages of more than $15,000, plus attorney's fees and costs. She is represented by Gloria Seidule of Law Office of Gloria Seidule in Stuart.
