Citizens Property Insurance Corp. offered amount did not cover damages, property owner claims

Insurance 05

FORT LAUDERDALE – A Miramar property owner alleges that damage costs exceeded the amount her insurer paid.

Kristyn Pittman filed a complaint on April 27 in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Broward County against Citizens Property Insurance Corp. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 25, 2016, her property, which was insured under a homeowners' insurance policy, sustained a covered loss as a result of a supply line leak. Although the defendant acknowledge covered loss and offered payment, the suit states the property sustained damages greater than the amount the defendant offered.

The plaintiff holds Citizens Property Insurance Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide full coverage for the loss and failed to acknowledge if payment is forthcoming.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury, court costs and other relief the court deems appropriate. She is represented by Lourdes Rodriguez Brea of The Law Offices of Grey & Mourin PA in Miami.
