Woman claims Ocoee employers wrongfully terminated her

ORLANDO – An Orange County woman alleges her Ocoee employers wrongfully terminated her for taking a medical leave.

Julia Cardenas filed a complaint on Feb. 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division against Comfortable Care Dental Health Professionals PA and Heartland Dental LLC alleging violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 24, 2015, she was terminated in retaliation for exercising her rights to FMLA by applying for unpaid leave to address a serious chronic health condition, specifically an abdominal aortic aneurysm that required surgery. The plaintiff holds Comfortable Care Dental Health Professionals PA and Heartland Dental LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly retaliated against plaintiff for exercising her FMLA rights.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants, back pay, liquidated damages, equitable relief, declaratory relief, attorneys' fees, costs, and further relief as the court determines to be just. She is represented by Richard Celler and Noah E. Storch of Richard Celler Legal PA in Davie.
