Flint Family Farms Sales seasonal workers allege they were not paid minimum wage

FORT MYERS – Six seasonal farm workers allege they were not properly compensated by a DeSoto County business for their labor.

George Crockett, Aaron Green, Albert Riggens, Kamel Waters, James Williams and Leon Darnell Williams filed a complaint on Dec. 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Fort Myers Division against Flint Family Farms Sales LLC citing the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act (AWPA).

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they worked for the defendant harvesting vegetables without being paid a minimum wage. The plaintiffs holds Flint Family Farms Sales LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly did not comply with the record keeping, wage statement and wage payment provisions of the AWPA.

The plaintiffs seek actual damages of $500 in statutory damages, unpaid minimum wages, liquidated damages, enjoin the defendant, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. They are represented by Sara Mangan and Tia Huntley of Florida Rural Legal Services Inc. in Fort Myers.
