NEW PORT RICHEY – A woman alleges she was wrongfully terminated from her job as a lead medical assistant because of her pregnancy.
Anays Sanchez filed a complaint on Nov. 30 in the 6th Judicial Circuit Court for Pasco County against Verimed Health Group Trinity LLC and Verimed Health Group LLC citing the Family and Medical Leave Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in December 2013, she began her employment with the defendants as a lead medical assistant. In February 2016, she became pregnant, was deemed by her physician as having high-risk pregnancy, and she alleges immediately informed defendants of her condition.
The suit states she was informed that she was being transferred to the Brooksville office because the Trinity office no longer has work for her. When she reported to work again in the same office with a physician's note stating that she cannot travel more than 10 miles to work, she alleges she was terminated on July 13, in retaliation.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants, back pay and benefits, liquidated damages, attorneys' fees, costs, reinstatement, equitable relief and such other relief as permitted by law. She is represented by Wolfgang M. Florin, Christopher D. Gray, Lindsey C. Kofoed and Robin M. Orosz of Florin Roebig PA in Palm Harbor.
