Life Insurance Company of North America accused of wrongly denying benefits

Insurance 02

ORLANDO — A woman is suing Life Insurance Company of North America, alleging breach of contract.

Sonya Matthews filed a complaint on Oct. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida Orlando Division against Life Insurance Company of North America, alleging that the insurance firm wrongly denied her claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled and applied for disability benefits but was denied. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because the insurer allegedly upheld its decision to deny her claim for disability benefits by wrongly stating that her condition did not meet the definition of total disability.

The plaintiff seeks a monetary award, interest, all legal fees and any other relief this court deems just. She is represented by Edward S. Rue of Rue & Ziffra in Port Orange.
