MetLife sued over denial of life insurance benefits

TAMPA — A woman is suing Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and Sterling Jewelers Inc., plan administrators, citing alleged breach of contract.

Tabitha Deguido filed a complaint on Oct. 24, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against the defendants alleging that they denied plaintiff's claim for life benefits left by his husband.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffered damages from being denied life benefits left by her late husband. The plaintiff holds Metropolitan Life Insurance Company & Sterling Jewelers Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly claim there was no beneficiary designated on the file of plaintiff's husband despite being present when the policy was being filled out.

The plaintiff seeks general and special damages, full amount of life insurance benefits, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. She is represented by Michael B. Germain of Germain Law Group in Tampa.
