Chanel alleges AliExpress vendors are selling counterfeit products

Trademark 08

FORT LAUDERDALE – A New York-based boutique alleges several sellers on AliExpress.com are offering counterfeit goods using its mark.

Chanel Inc. filed a complaint on Sept. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against the 7788 Jewelry&Gifts store, Bling Case Specialty Store, Brand City, et al., citing trademark infringement and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendants were intentionally promoting and advertising, distributing, selling, and/or offering for sale counterfeit items with exact copies of the Chanel mark.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly caused confusion and deception to the consuming public, distributed products bearing counterfeit marks, passed off products that were far inferior in quality and gained profit at the expense of plaintiff.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants, injunctions from further infringement, profits and damages from the infringement, costs, attorneys' fees, investigative fees, interest and further relief as the court may deem just. It is represented by Virgilio Gigante and T. Raquel Rodriguez-Albizu of Stephen M. Gaffigan PA in Fort Lauderdale.
