Alleged counterfeiters face suit from Chanel over online offerings

MIAMI – A New York corporation alleges several online sellers are offering counterfeit versions of its products.

Chanel Inc. filed a complaint on Sept. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against bychanels.com, 7buyperfectbags.com, ibuyperfectbags.com, et al., alleging trademark infringement and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Chanel Inc. suffered damages to its business. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly distributed counterfeit copies of plaintiff's products through online stores.

The plaintiff seeks injunction against the defendants, enjoin the defendants from further infringing plaintiff's marks, order for the defendants to transfer online domains to plaintiff, order for the defendants to pay plaintiff all profits and damages, statutory damages in the amount of $2 million per each counterfeit trademark, all legal fees and interest and any other relief as the court deems just.
