Adams Acres Inc., St. Augustine Group Homes Inc. accused of not paying overtime wages

JACKSONVILLE – Two group homes for development disabled adults in St. John's County are alleged to not have adequately compensated their employees.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez filed a complaint on Sept. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division against the Adams Acres Inc., St. Augustine Group Homes Inc. and Wendy Moran citing the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendants' employees that were not fairly compensated. The plaintiff holds Adams Acres Inc., St. Augustine Group Homes Inc. and Moran responsible because the defendants allegedly only paid their employees a flat rate instead and did not pay overtime wages at a rate of time-and-one-half for any hours worked beyond 40 per week.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to permanently enjoin the defendants, award back wages, liquidated damages, and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Amy R. Walker of U.S. Department of Labor in Atlanta.
