Consumer alleges debt collector tried to collect additional fees

Late 06

MIAMI — A consumer has filed suit against a debt collector for alleged unfair debt collection practices.

Stephanie Suazo filed a complaint on Aug. 8 in theU.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Credit Management LP, alleging that the debt collector violated various federal laws.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 23, she received a collection letter sent by the defendant that directed her to the company website for payment options. But the website reportedly only had two payments options, credit card or check payment, with an extra charge for collection fees added on. The plaintiff holds Credit Managemen LP responsible because the defendant allegedly charged collection fees that are against the law and attempted to collect an amount not owed by the plaintiff.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant, actual and statutory damages, costs, attorney’s fees and other relief as the court may deem appropriate. She is represented by Michael Jay Ringelheim of RC Law Group PLLC in Hackensack, New Jersey.
