Man seeks reinstatement of disability benefits

Insurance 01

ORLANDO – A disabled Orange County man alleges his benefits were terminated and seeks reinstatement to the disability plan.

Anton L. Sanders filed a complaint on May 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he became disabled according to the terms of the plan in March 2015 and applied for disability benefits. The suit states that while initially approved in September 2015, the benefits were suddenly terminated without any notice by the defendant that December. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its termination of plaintiff's disability benefits despite several appeals by plaintiff.

The plaintiff seeks all benefits owing, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Nick A. Ortiz of Ortiz Law Firm in Pensacola.
