ORLANDO – An African-American male alleges he was not hired for a position because of his race.

Leonard Briscoe filed a complaint on May 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division against Robert McDonald and the Department of Veterans Affairs Agency citing violation of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is a lead clinical psychologist and alleges that he has been subjected to disparate treatment and was denied promotional opportunities at the Orlando VA Medical Center. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly hired a white female for the supervisory psychologist position, who was less qualified than the plaintiff, in 2012.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks declaratory judgment that the defendants violated his rights to be free from discrimination, compensation for all damages, attorneys' fees and costs and all other relief determined by the court. He is represented by Jerry Girley of The Girley Law Firm PA in Orlando.
