Disabled woman alleges Aetna terminated her benefits

Insurance 04

MIAMI – A former sales consultant is suing her insurance company over allegations it terminated her disability benefits.

Susan Richmond-Lott filed a complaint on March 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division against Aetna Life Insurance Co. alleging that the claims administrator violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she had to quit working because of her disabilities in 2009. The plaintiff holds Aetna Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated her long-term disability benefits in 2015 and ignored the medical records and clear opinions of her physicians.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for unpaid long-term disability benefits, plus interest, attorney’s fees and costs and any further relief that the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Edward Philip Dabdoub and Geannina Burgos of Wagar Dabdoub PA in Miami.
