Woman claims Exeter has called her more than 2,000 times

Medium phone

ORLANDO – An Orlando woman alleges that a creditor has harassed her by calling her four times a day.

Karen Hurless filed a complaint on March 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division against Exeter Finance Corp., alleging that the creditor violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in August 2014, she began receiving intrusive and unwanted telephone calls from the defendant seeking to recover an alleged debt. The suit states that she has received approximately 2,180 calls from the defendant. The plaintiff holds Exeter Finance Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly made non-emergency calls using an automatic telephone dialing system or a pre-recorded or artificial voice, which is in violation of the TCPA.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for statutory, treble, punitive and actual damages, attorney fees and costs and any relief that the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Octavio “Tav” Gomez of Morgan & Morgan, Tampa PA in Tampa.
