MIAMI — Five Florida residents are suing a debt collection firm, in a class-action suit claiming that Florida-based Patient Account Services LLC violated various collection and communication laws.

Lyesisha Briggs, Jackie Losey, Lisa Vitiello, James Gomperts and David Riggleman filed suit Feb. 2 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, alleging that the debt collection firm used an automated telephone dialing system and violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act and the Telephone Communication Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they received calls from the defendant despite their requests that the defendant cease calling them.

The plaintiffs seek the following: compensation for actual damages, statutory damages, reasonable attorney’s fees and costs and any other legal and/or equitable relief that the court may deem appropriate. They are represented by Sharina T. Romano of Hyslip & Taylor, LLC, LPA in Chicago.
