Lawsuit: Orange County Sheriff disciplines Black female employees harder than non-Black male employees

Lawsuits
Orangecounty

A former employee is suing the Orange County Sheriff's Office in federal court for allegedly discriminating against her as a Black 54-year-old breast cancer patient.

According to the complaint filed on April 5 in the Middle Florida U.S. District Court, plaintiff Deborah Wright worked for the defendant as an Investigative Analyst III. She was terminated in August of 2020 for violation of Conformance to Laws policy, but Wright says she had not done any wrong and the termination was unjustified.

Wright says that different employees who are not Black, younger than the plaintiff and are not female were accused of the same level of misconduct but were not terminated.

Wright claims four civil rights violations and two counts of violating the Americans with Disabilities At. She is represented by Terri Guttman Valdes LLC of Coral Gables.
