Red Lion Pub patron files suit after knife incident

CLEARWATER – A Pinellas County man is seeking damages after he was allegedly injured trying to subdue a man with a knife at a pub.

Michael W. Arnold Jr. filed a complaint on May 17 in the Pinellas Circuit Court against Lana's Red Lion Pub Inc., doing business as Red Lion Pub, and Gulf Mart LLC doing business as USA Grocers alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 19, 2013, he was a customer of the Red Lion Pub and was seriously injured while trying to subdue and restrain another customer, James Kingbell, who was attacking a female employee with a knife. The suit states the knife had been purchased at USA Grocers.

The plaintiff holds Lana's Red Lion Pub Inc. and Gulf Mart LLC responsible because defendant Red Lion Pub allegedly failed to provide safe accommodation and adequate security and defendant USA Grocers' store allegedly failed to refuse to sell a weapon to a visibly intoxicated Kingbell.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against each defendant in an amount of more than $15,000. He is represented by James R. Wilson of Morgan & Morgan Tampa PA in St. Petersburg.
