ORLANDO – An Apopka property owner alleges that the contractor that built his residence violated state building codes.

Hedley H. John filed a complaint on May 15 in the 9th Judicial District Court of Florida - Orange County against Calatlantic Group Inc., formerly known as The Ryland Group Inc., alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the defendant was the contractor for the plaintiff's house and hired various subcontractors. The plaintiff alleges that a licensed engineer determined that the house has an inadequately and improperly installed stucco system. The plaintiff holds Calatlantic Group Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to comply with all applicable local, state and national building codes and regulations.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for damages, plus interest, costs and other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Wil H. Florin, Neil P. O'Brien and Luca G. Esposito of Florin Roebig PA in Palm Harbor.
