M.R.S. Associates Inc. accused of harassing consumer with debt collection calls

Phone 02

TAMPA – A Riverview resident alleges he has been harassed by numerous phone calls from a debt collector.

Jorge Rivera filed a complaint on April 10 in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida against M.R.S. Associates Inc. of New Jersey, doing business as M.R.S. Associates Inc., alleging that the defendant violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was intentionally harassed and abused on numerous occasions by receiving several robocalls on his cellular telephone regarding an alleged debt from the defendants. The plaintiff holds M.R.S. Associates Inc. of New Jersey, doing business as M.R.S. Associates Inc., responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to get consent from consumers before calling, used an automatic dialer and continued to call even after plaintiff demanded to cease all calls.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for statutory, punitive and actual damages; costs; interest; attorney fees and any other such relief as the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by Amanda J. Allen and William Peerce Howard of The Consumer Protection Firm in Tampa.
