FORT LAUDERDALE – The owner of a Deerfield Beach property claims its insurer didn't adequately cover damages the property sustained because of water.

Roderick P. Hansen Revocable Trust filed a complaint on March 30 in 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida - Broward County against Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 10, 2012, its property sustained a covered loss as a result of a sudden and accidental water discharge. Although the defendant tendered payment of insurance benefits based on its own inspection of the loss, the suit states the sustained damage was far greater than what was acknowledged by the defendant. The plaintiff holds Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to acknowledge or deny that further payment is forthcoming and failed to make any further payment of adequate insurance proceeds.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant, declaratory relief, award costs, interest, attorney's fees and other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Antonio Jimenez of Diverse Legal Solutions in Miramar.
